Previous Fletcher Branch Manager Andrew Jordan is now Branch Manager at the Mills
River Library. Ali Wilson, who previously worked at the Fletcher Library is now Branch
Manager at Fletcher. Andrew and Ali are excited about their new roles and look
forward to connuing serving the community.

The library uses the help of an auxiliary sta pool to ll in during regular sta
absences and to provide extra help when needed. Our auxiliary library assistants
may be called to work at any locaon during any of our open hours, oen with
short noce! We appreciate their hard work that helps us provide connued
service at all six of our library locaons.
You may have also seen our driver Mike making library deliveries. Mike visits
each library to drop o and pick up many crates of books that have been
requested each week.

Naonal Voter Registraon Day is a
nonparsan civic holiday dedicated to
celebrang our democracy. The holiday
and parcipang partners work to help
cizens get registered to vote in me for
their next trip to the ballot box.
The Henderson County Public Library
will have voter registraon forms for
pick up at each of our six library
locaons Starng September 17

Our bookstore volunteers recently took a ash survey of a few
bookstore customers. We wanted to know the principal reasons
why our customers connue to have a strong interest in
purchasing our printed books.
Just that many years ago, along came the Internet, laptop
computers, e-readers, and cell phones. Many speculated that the
days of people reading printed books were numbered. Books
were just going to fade away, replaced by technology.
As it turns out, speculaon about the death of printed books has
turned out to be wrong. We are now hearing the same
commentators adming as much. Judging by the strength of our
bookstore sales, printed books are here to stay with a strong
segment of the adult populaon. Responsible adults are also
taking acon to introduce children to the joy of reading.

Next, our survey asked readers what they read most oen. Our
bookstore shelves are labeled as shown below. We get book
donaons that keep those shelves nicely full. The responses
below closely match our sales experience. -

The Friends supported all Summer Reading programs and prizes
for all ages, including the Summer Reading prize books for
children and teens.
A narrow denion would focus on the nonprot organizaon
with the registered names of Friends of the Henderson County
Public Library, Inc. That denion would include only the
volunteers who operate the bookstore and a few hundred
members of the organizaon.
However, a more accurate denion of Friends of the Library
must also include the thousands of bookstore visitors who come
throughout the year to donate books and to buy books. Without
them, there would be no Friends organizaon. Lost would be the
crical funds needed by our outstanding Henderson County
Public Library system.
Friends are dened as “those with whom one has a bond of
mutual aecon.” In this case, our mutual aecon is centered
around the books and other items we love, and the public library
we all support.

The newest novel by Nicolas Sparks, Counng Miracles is set in Asheboro,
North Carolina where an Army Ranger comes to town between posngs
looking for the father he never knew. While in town he makes a connecon
with a local doctor and single mom.
Katharine, the Wright Sisterby Tracey Enerson Wood is a historical novel that
tells the story of Katherine, sister of Orville and Wilbur Wright, who worked in
the background to keep the family and their business together. Tracey
Enerson Wood will speak at the Main Library on September 16
th
at 11am.
A woman in a small Georgia town takes a part me job at the local police
department and becomes obsessed with solving a local cold case in The Night
the River Wept, the second novel by Georgia author Lo Patrick.
Local author Leanna Sain’s latest thriller, Glass Tears, takes place in the North
Carolina mountains where a woman seeks to discover the truth about her
father’s tragic death 20 years earlier.
North Carolina author Beth Revis’s latest book Full Speed to a Crash Landing
is the rst in a new sci romance trilogy.
Kings of Coweetseeby Asheville author Dale Neal is a story of a small
southern town’s corrupt elecons and hidden crimes coming to light.
Baking in the American South by Anne Byrn includes classic Southern recipes
and stories of the places, people, and culture that have inuenced them.
Best known for his outdoor historical dramas, including The Lost Colony,
playwright Paul Green is the subject of a new anthology collecon from
contemporary North Carolina writers tled Paul Green: North
Carolina Writers on the Legacy of the State’s Most Celebrated
Playwright.
Fans of true crime will want to check out The Devil
at His Elbow by Valerie Bauerlein, a new book about

of reading! ’-

Friends of the Library for making it all happen. We couldn’t have done it without your support!

Adventure Packs are designed for families
and nature lovers of all ages. Each pack
includes a variety of tools and nature guides
to beer explore the outdoors: trail cameras,
bugnoculars, buery nets, bird calls, and
more. Stop by your local branch to nd out
more!
Adventure Packs may be placed on hold using
an adult card in good standing. They can be
picked up at any Henderson County Library
locaon and will check out for 21 days.
The Mills River Adventure Packs were
purchased with a donaon from the High
Vista Book Club in honor of their friends Judy
Price, Eydie Sloane, and Valerie Hennike.
Addional Adventure Packs have been made
possible with funding from the Friends of the
